Researchers at the University of Brighton, East Sussex have discovered that oils extracted from thyme can kill the deadly MRSA bug in two hours, according to a story in the Daily Mail. The deadly infection is linked to more than 18,000 deaths per year in the US. The infection has become of problem in hospitals because the bug lives on the skin in healthy people, but when it's able to get into the body, like in hospital operations, it becomes deadly.
A study published in the International Journal of Essential Oil Therapeutics has found that thyme could be used to stop the spread of MRSA. And thus far thyme has shown no adverse side effects. The is great news considering the infection is resistant to antibiotics and hard to treat.
